Throttle point

The throttle point is the temperature at which a chip begins reducing clocks to protect itself, commonly 95-105 °C on CPUs and 83-90 °C on GPUs.

Not measurable from a browser

A browser cannot read temperatures, power draw, fan speed, VRAM capacity, clock frequency or native FLOPS. For a direct reading use a native monitor such as HWiNFO64, GPU-Z or lm-sensors. SystemCheck contributes the other half: whether the condition is costing you throughput, measured as decay and consistency.

The throttle point is set in firmware and is not a damage threshold. Chips are designed to operate at it continuously. Some modern CPUs are explicitly intended to run at their limit and boost until they reach it, so hitting the throttle point is expected behaviour rather than evidence of a broken cooler.

What matters is how quickly it is reached and how far frequency falls once there. A chip that reaches its limit after ten minutes and gives up 5% of its clock is fine. One that reaches it in twenty seconds and gives up 40% has a real cooling or mounting problem. The temperature alone does not distinguish these cases; the performance response does.

SystemCheck cannot read the throttle point or your current temperature. Browsers expose no thermal sensors at all. It measures the second half of that question: how much performance you lose and how quickly. Combine SystemCheck's decay figure with a temperature log from HWiNFO64 for the complete picture.
