Why are my MacBook Pro fans so loud?
On an Apple Silicon MacBook Pro the fans stay off or barely turning for the majority of everyday work, so audible fans genuinely mean something is drawing sustained power. That is either a workload you started, or a process you did not notice.
Open Activity Monitor and sort by CPU. If a named application you are actively using is at the top, the fans are correct and the machine is doing what a Pro exists to do. If the top entry is something you did not start, that is the fault to fix.

The fix
Nothing to fix. Fans are how the Pro holds its speed where the Air would settle; the noise is the feature you paid for.
2. A runaway or stuck process

The fix
Quit and restart it. Persistent offenders across restarts usually need the parent application updated or reinstalled.
3. Indexing, backup or a first sync after a migration

The fix
Let it finish, plugged in. These are legitimate one-off jobs, and interrupting them repeatedly makes them take longer.
4. Software running under translation or in a virtual machine

The fix
Prefer native builds where they exist, and give virtual machines fewer cores than the maximum, which often reduces heat far more than it reduces useful speed.
5. Ambient heat, an external display, or blocked airflow

The fix
Hard surface, air behind the hinge, cooler room where possible. The fan compensates for a smaller temperature difference by spinning faster.
6. Dust, on an older machine

The fix
An Apple or authorised service clean. This is genuine on older units and rarely the cause on a machine under two years old.
Measure it instead of guessing
Run the test and watch whether the machine holds its level while the fans are loud. Loud fans plus a flat curve is a Pro doing exactly its job. Loud fans plus a sliding curve means the cooling is losing, which points at dust, ambient heat or a blocked surface rather than at the workload.
What software cannot tell you here
