What is the high-pitched noise from my laptop?
A thin electrical whine or squeal that rises and falls with what the machine is doing, rather than with fan speed, is coil whine. It comes from electrical components vibrating at audible frequencies as current changes through them, and it is a manufacturing tolerance rather than a fault.
