Why people look for an alternative

    A browser-based stress test. Four stages (a sustained multi-core CPU load, a memory bandwidth and latency stage, a GPU raster load and a path-tracing load) with no install and no account for the core test. It reads the shape of the CPU curve to name why performance fell: a power budget expiring, cooling falling behind, or something else contending for the cores.

    Best for
    Finding out whether a machine holds its performance under sustained load and, when it does not, why, on any desktop OS, without installing anything.
    Limitation
    It cannot read temperatures, power draw, fan speed or VRAM. No browser exposes an API for them. Results are directional rather than lab-grade and move with browser, driver and background load.

When Geekbench is still the right choice

Geekbench is genuinely hard to beat for its core purpose: comparing a phone, a laptop and a desktop on one scale, across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No other tool on this page spans that range, and none of them work on mobile at all.

Is there a Geekbench alternative that works on mobile?
Not among the tools on this page. Cinebench, PassMark, 3DMark and SystemCheck are all desktop-oriented; SystemCheck explicitly blocks phones and tablets rather than serving a fallback result. Cross-platform mobile coverage is the thing Geekbench does that its alternatives largely do not.
Which is better for spotting thermal throttling?
Neither Geekbench nor a single short benchmark run is well suited to it, because throttling shows up after a machine has heated up. A sustained run is what reveals it. SystemCheck reports decay across a sustained load directly and names the shape of it, which is what separates throttling from a power limit; alternatively, loop any benchmark and watch whether the score falls between iterations.
