3DMark is the reference GPU score and hard to replace if the number must be citable. Free GPU load: Unigine or FurMark. A browser check on GPU behaviour under sustained load, plus a diagnosis of the CPU side: SystemCheck.

Why people look for an alternative

  • The full feature set is a paid product, which is a barrier for a one-off check.
  • It is a substantial native install, which is inconvenient on a machine you do not own or cannot install software on.
  • It is GPU-focused, so it does not answer CPU or whole-system questions on its own.

Most of these are not SystemCheck, because for most of these jobs they are the better answer.

    Best for
    Thermal and power-delivery stability testing, finding the failure point.
    Limitation

Four stages (a sustained multi-core CPU load, a memory bandwidth and latency stage, a GPU raster load and a path-tracing load) with no install and no account for the core test. It reads the shape of the CPU curve to name why performance fell: a power budget expiring, cooling falling behind, or something else contending for the cores.

    Best for
    Finding out whether a machine holds its performance under sustained load and, when it does not, why, on any desktop OS, without installing anything.
    Limitation
    It cannot read temperatures, power draw, fan speed or VRAM. No browser exposes an API for them. Results are directional rather than lab-grade and move with browser, driver and background load.

When 3DMark is still the right choice

If you need a GPU figure that a reviewer, a forum or a warranty conversation will accept, 3DMark remains the answer. Its result database, its standing in hardware journalism, and its ability to chart temperature, clocks and power during a stress loop are things no browser-based tool can match.

Is there a free 3DMark alternative?
Unigine's benchmarks have free tiers and are the most common free substitute for a repeatable GPU score. FurMark is free but is a stress tool rather than a comparative benchmark. SystemCheck is free and needs no install, and is the only one of the three that names why performance fell; it covers a narrower question than 3DMark does.
Can a browser benchmark replace 3DMark?
No, and it would be dishonest to claim otherwise. A browser runs through WebGL2 or WebGPU inside a sandbox, which adds overhead a native application does not have, and it cannot read GPU sensors. A browser tool answers whether a machine holds up under sustained load; it does not produce a citable GPU rating.
