Business purchases are judged over three years, not thirty days, so the checklist weights what consumer reviews ignore: serviceability and parts availability, docking that survives daily redocking, manageability and security hardware, and warranty terms with named response times.

One habit repays itself across any fleet size: a sustained test at delivery for every unit, saved. It baselines each machine, catches the occasional bad unit inside the return window, and gives year-two slowness complaints a number to be compared against.

3. Security and manageability hardware

TPM, modern standby behaviour, biometrics that your policies will actually use, and management hooks your tooling supports (or deliberately does not).

The fix

Match to the security posture you run, not the one the brochure assumes. A feature nobody enrols is a cost; a missing one your auditor requires is a bigger one.

6. Delivery-day baselining, unit by unit

The fix

A four-minute sustained test per unit at provisioning flags the outliers while returning them is administrative rather than argumentative, and files a baseline every future complaint can be measured against.

Measure it instead of guessing

For a fleet, the test's value compounds: identical units baselined at delivery turn year-two 'my laptop is slow' tickets into curve comparisons, outlier units surface inside the return window instead of at contract renewal, and the browser delivery means nothing is installed on managed images to do it.
