Editing has one spec question the sales page never answers: what does the machine hold during a forty-minute export, not a forty-second demo. The specs that decide it, in order: hardware support for your camera's codec, enough RAM for your timeline, sustained (not peak) processor performance, fast storage, and a screen honest enough to grade on.

3. Sustained performance: the export is a marathon

4. Storage: speed for the cache, size for the media

5. The screen: grading needs the truth

The gap between the tiers is mostly a sustained-load gap, and that is measurable before the return window closes: run the deep test on the new machine, and the settled level tells you whether you bought the export performance the sales page implied. Keep the report; it is the baseline every future 'has it slowed down' question compares against.
