Why does my laptop overheat in summer?
Because a laptop cooler does not remove heat, it moves heat into the room. When that room is at 34 degrees instead of 22, the same cooler has far less to work with, so the machine reaches its limit sooner and settles lower. Nothing about the laptop changed; the thing it dumps heat into did.
This is measurable rather than mystical: run the same test in the cool of the morning and again in the afternoon, and the gap between the two settled levels is what the season is costing you.

Move heavy work to the cool hours where you can. In hot climates this is not a workaround, it is the honest scheduling of a machine whose cooling budget varies by time of day.
2. Heat soak across sessions

First run of the day is best, every later run is worse, and a long break restores some of it. The chassis and heatsink never return to cool.
The fix
Genuine idle between heavy sessions, and airflow around the machine rather than only under it. A machine on a desk against a wall recirculates its own exhaust.
3. Direct sun and warm surfaces

Working near a sunlit window, or on a desk that has been in sun all afternoon, adds heat the vents never asked for.
The fix
Out of direct sun, and off surfaces that are themselves warm. Free, and larger than it sounds.
4. Dust, which summer exposes rather than causes

The fix
A cooling service before summer rather than during it. In hot climates the service interval should be the shorter end of the range.
5. Fans working at maximum for less effect

The fix
Expected behaviour, not a fault. Elevating the rear and clearing the intakes gives that harder-working fan more to work with.
Measure it instead of guessing
This is the article where the before-and-after is a clock rather than a repair: run the test at seven in the morning and again at three in the afternoon, same machine, same desk. The difference in settled level is the summer tax, in a number you can plan around.
What software cannot tell you here
- We cannot read room temperature or the machine's own sensors; the comparison between two runs at different hours is the honest instrument here.
- We cannot separate a hot room from a dusty machine in a single run: a cleaning and a re-test does that.

- What room temperature is too hot for a laptop?
- Most makers specify operation up to around 35 degrees ambient, but performance starts falling well before that limit: every degree of room heat is a degree of cooling headroom gone. A machine in a 32-degree room is inside specification and measurably slower than the same machine at 22.
- Does air conditioning help laptop performance?
- Directly and measurably, because it lowers the temperature of the air the cooler dumps into. If you have ever wondered whether a cooler room is worth it for heavy work, run the test in both and read the settled levels; the answer is usually larger than people expect.
- Should I use a cooling pad in summer?
- It helps most where the machine draws air from below and the pad gives it cooler, less obstructed air. In a genuinely hot room it is moving the same hot air faster, so the gain is smaller than in a cool one. Measure with and without; twenty minutes settles it for your machine.
