What does laptop GPU wattage mean?

The wattage is how much power the laptop maker allows the graphics chip to draw, and each maker chooses it per model. The same chip can be configured across a wide range, which is why two laptops carrying an identical graphics name can perform a tier apart.

This is the single most important specification in a performance laptop and the one least likely to appear on the product page. Reviews that measure it are worth more than specification tables that omit it.
