Is a high refresh rate screen worth it on a laptop?
For most people, yes, and not mainly for gaming. A 120Hz screen makes scrolling, window dragging and cursor movement visibly smoother, which is a benefit you receive every minute of use rather than only while playing something.
The two caveats: it costs battery life unless the machine can drop its refresh rate when idle, and in games it only helps if the machine can actually produce more than 60 frames per second, which on modest laptops it often cannot.

If you are buying for gaming, run the test on the machine and read the settled level. A laptop that fades under sustained load will spend most of a gaming session below the frame rate its panel could show, which is the argument for spending on cooling and power rather than on refresh rate.
