What each tool is
SystemCheck is a browser-based stress test. It runs four stages (a 60-second sustained multi-core CPU load, a memory bandwidth and latency stage, a GPU raster load and a path-tracing load) in three minutes, with no install and no account for the core test. It reports throughput alongside decay and consistency over sustained load, rather than a single peak number, and it classifies the shape of the CPU curve to name why performance fell. It cannot read temperatures, power draw, fan speed or VRAM size, because the web platform exposes no API for any of them, and its results are directional rather than lab-grade.
UserBenchmark is a small free Windows application. You download and run an executable, it tests CPU, GPU, memory and storage in a few minutes, and it uploads the result to a public web page you can link to or compare against other submissions. It requires no account and has collected a very large volume of user-submitted results over many years.
Because it is a native Windows program, it can enumerate real hardware (specific CPU and GPU models, drive models, memory configuration) with a precision no browser can reach. Its whole-system sweep, including storage and memory, is also broader than what SystemCheck tests.
Its scoring methodology has drawn substantial public criticism from hardware press and enthusiast communities, and several large forums have banned links to it over concerns about how its composite weightings rank parts. That criticism is about the interpretation layer. The individual measured sub-scores are a separate question from the headline ranking built on top of them.
Where UserBenchmark is stronger
These are the dimensions where UserBenchmark beats SystemCheck outright. Some are structural: a browser cannot reach hardware sensors at all.
- It is completely free with no paid tier at all, where SystemCheck charges a one-time fee for the detailed report.
- As a native Windows program it identifies specific hardware (exact CPU, GPU, drive and memory parts) which a browser cannot do reliably.
- It tests storage and memory as well as CPU and GPU, so it covers more of the machine in one pass.
- Its result database is far larger than SystemCheck's, so a submission lands against a very deep set of comparable systems.
Where SystemCheck is stronger
- It names why. The CPU curve is classified and the report states the likely cause with its confidence, where UserBenchmark ranks the part and stops.
- Nothing is downloaded or executed on your machine. The test runs in a browser tab you can close.
- Sustained-load decay and consistency are primary outputs, not incidental.
- It runs on macOS and Linux as well as Windows, since it only needs a WebGL2 browser.
- Scoring is documented and each report carries the measurement revision that produced it.

Use SystemCheck if…
Use SystemCheck when you cannot or would rather not install anything (a work laptop, a machine you are evaluating in a shop, a friend's PC) or when the question is behavioural rather than inventory: does this system hold its performance over a sustained load, or does it fall away after the first thirty seconds? It is also the one to reach for when the question is why a machine got slower: the report names the shape of the loss and puts the retest next to the run it is trying to beat.

- Is SystemCheck a replacement for UserBenchmark?
- No. They answer different questions. UserBenchmark inventories a Windows system and places each part against a large database. SystemCheck measures how a system behaves across roughly three minutes of sustained CPU and GPU load, in a browser, on any desktop OS. If you want a component inventory, UserBenchmark is the right tool.
- Why does SystemCheck not test storage?
- Because a browser cannot measure it meaningfully. There is no web API for raw disk throughput, and anything we reported would be an artefact of the browser's storage layer rather than the drive. We would rather omit a number than publish a misleading one. Memory is different: workers streaming large arrays and a pointer chase through a shuffled one do measure bandwidth and round-trip latency, so the memory stage reports those, unscored.
- Does SystemCheck need a download?
- No. SystemCheck runs entirely in the browser tab and requires no account to run the core four-stage test. UserBenchmark requires downloading and running a Windows executable.
- Can SystemCheck tell me my exact CPU or GPU model?
- Not reliably. Browsers deliberately mask detailed hardware identifiers to limit fingerprinting, so what SystemCheck sees is an approximate renderer string. A native tool like UserBenchmark is much better at this.
