- A strip never registers
- Remove a thick screen protector and clean the screen. If the strip stays dead, the digitiser is damaged and the screen assembly is the repair.
- Touches are missed near the edge
- Many phones ignore the outer few millimetres on purpose. A dead edge inside that band is normal.
- Only one finger registers
- On a laptop, check the touch screen is enabled in Device Manager or the maker's settings. On a phone, a system-level accessibility setting can limit touch.

- Ghost touches that happen only in certain apps or at certain temperatures.
- Pressure and stylus tilt, which few browsers expose.
- The screen's edges beyond the browser window.

The camera and microphone are read on this page and stopped as soon as they have been measured. The clip you can play back lives in the browser's memory and is discarded when you leave. The location check discards the position. The internet test sends random bytes to this site and nothing else. The result is stored nowhere unless you ask for it by email, and then only the fact that an email was sent is kept.

- How do I check my touch screen for dead spots?
- Drag one finger slowly across the whole test area in rows. Where the line breaks, the screen missed the touch. Use the full-screen browser mode to cover the edges.
- How many fingers should my screen support?
- Most phones and tablets support ten; laptops usually five or ten. Two is enough for pinch and zoom.
- Is anything recorded?
- No. Touch positions are drawn on this page and discarded.
