A DualShock 4 works in the browser by micro-USB or Bluetooth. Chromium recognises the first model as Sony 054c and 05c4, the second as 09cc, and Sony's wireless adapter as 0ba0. This page measures how often its reports arrive through the Gamepad API and, in Chrome and Edge, through WebHID, and names the report it is sending, because over Bluetooth the pad has two.

- The product number gives the model: 05c4 is the first DualShock 4 and 09cc the second. 0ba0 is Sony's wireless adapter.
- Short report over Bluetooth
- Until a host asks for its calibration, the pad sends a short report over Bluetooth. Once switched it stays on the full report until it disconnects.
- Drift
- The sticks are read at rest the gamepad tester's way. Drift is wear in the stick module.

- Gamepad API interval
- Every change of Gamepad.timestamp while you roll a stick for five seconds, capped by Chrome and Edge's 4 ms polling.
- WebHID report interval
- The pad's own input reports in Chrome and Edge. SDL's driver (SDL_hidapi_ps4.c) uses a default report interval of 4 ms; the page measures yours.
- Simple or full reports
- Over USB the pad sends report 0x01. Over Bluetooth it sends a short report 0x01 until a host reads its calibration, after which it sends the full report 0x11 until it disconnects; SDL's driver calls that switch a one-way ticket. The page names the one it saw and does not switch it.
- Drift at rest
- The gamepad tester's reading: a stick still for a second and outside our 8 percent dead zone is drifting.
If it fails
The usual failures, and what fixes each.
- Will not pair
- Hold Share and PS until the light bar flashes quickly, then pair from the system's Bluetooth settings. A pad paired to a PS4 nearby may reconnect to it instead; switch the console off.
- Charges but is not seen on a cable
- Some micro-USB cables carry power only. Use a cable known to carry data.
- A stick drifts
- Raise the game's dead zone as a stop-gap. Drift is wear in the stick module, and a replacement module fixes it.
Where a browser stops
What it cannot tell you.
- The touchpad, motion sensors and light bar, which the Gamepad API's standard layout does not carry.
- Battery level, which this page does not decode from the reports.
- Input lag, which needs a camera or a photodiode.
- Third-party pads sold as DualShock 4. They may report other numbers and behave differently.
Privacy
Nothing leaves this page.
The camera and microphone are read on this page and stopped as soon as they have been measured. The clip you can play back lives in the browser's memory and is discarded when you leave. The location check discards the position. The internet test sends random bytes to this site and nothing else. The result is stored nowhere unless you ask for it by email, and then only the fact that an email was sent is kept.
