Every key
A key that never lights up is a dead switch, a broken trace or a keyboard the system has partly disabled.
Rollover
The most keys held at once that all registered. Basic keyboards manage two or three; gaming keyboards register every key.
Stuck keys
A key still reported as down when you finish, which is a stuck switch or a missed key release.
If it fails
The usual failures, and what fixes each.
- A key does not light up
- Try it in another program to rule out the browser. If it is dead everywhere, on a laptop the keyboard is a replacement part; on a desktop, a new keyboard.
- A key repeats or sticks
- Pull the keycap and clean under it; crumbs and spills are the usual cause. If it still sticks, the switch has failed.
- Only two or three keys register together
- That is the keyboard's rollover limit, not a fault. It matters for games and chords, not typing. Gaming keyboards advertise N-key rollover for this.
Where a browser stops

- Keys outside the map, such as media keys and the number pad, which still register in the last-key readout.
- Whether a key is physically worn; only that it registers.
- Latency of the switch itself.

The camera and microphone are read on this page and stopped as soon as they have been measured. The clip you can play back lives in the browser's memory and is discarded when you leave. The location check discards the position. The internet test sends random bytes to this site and nothing else. The result is stored nowhere unless you ask for it by email, and then only the fact that an email was sent is kept.

- How do I test my keyboard online?

- What is keyboard ghosting?
- When holding certain keys together makes the keyboard report a key you did not press, or drop one you did. It happens past the keyboard's rollover limit, usually two or three keys on basic keyboards.
- Is anything I type recorded?
- No. Key presses are counted on this page and never sent anywhere.
